Iāve just started testing Opal on my Mac (MacBook Pro M2) as Iām using it already on my iPhone. And so, Iāve subscribed to the Pro offer.
For now, the biggest issue (bug) Iāve noticed is that I can simply quit the Opal app while a block is running the stop the blockage! So, no sense at all for this app!
Iāve tried everything: uninstall the Opal app and re-install it, restart the computer, logout from Opal. Nothing solves the issue. I still can just close the Opal app and all the apps and websites are available again even while a block is running.
Hello, Iām new to Opal and hoping it helps. I was able to create an Allow list on my iPhone, but having trouble creating one on my Mac computer. Here is how AI assistant says to create an allow list:
To set up an Allow List on your Mac computer using the Opal app, follow these steps:
Open the Opal app on your Mac.
Click on the āBlocksā tab.
Click on the ā+ā icon in the top right corner to create a new session.
Select āAllow Listā as your session type.
Choose the apps and websites you want to allow by clicking on them in the list provided. All other apps and websites will be blocked during the session.
Once you have selected the apps and websites you want to allow, click āSaveā to apply the Allow List to your session.
However when I open the Blocks tab on my Mac, there is no + icon in the top right. The only + icon is on the left for āNew Blockā and there is no option in there for an Allow list. I cannot find any other way to create an Allow list for the Mac computer. Would appreciate some info on how to do this. Thank you.
So Iāve used this app for a few months now and Iāve really enjoyed it and had no issues with it prior. However, I noticed that with the recent update, my Mac will finish a session and then I am unable to open up any of the applications and websites that were assigned to be block after the session has ended.
The only way I can finally get it my applications work is by hitting the refresh button after it ends (the one in the top righthand corner of the Mac application).
Given the cost of the application and the fact that I have to hit another ābuttonā after the session ends in order to get my computer to act normally after itās done is a bit frustrating.
I have tried a variety of things:
1.) restarting my computer
2.) restarting the app
3.) logging in and out of the app
4.) logging out of the app, checking for updates, logging back into the app
5.) changing the permissions and turning them on and off (notification wise and access
6.) deleting the app/uninstalling the app and re-installing the app
And none of these seem to solve the answer. Iāve also searched this forum and havenāt found an answer. Iām not sure if itās just a me issue or what⦠but do I really have to push another button for the app to work properly? Thatās a bit dishearteningā¦
I configured gmail.com to be blocked by Opal, and I can access it using the Arc Browser pop-up screen, when browsing regularly the site is blocked and everything works fine as expected.
Happy to help. Currently, our Mac app supports Chrome, Safari, Arc, Opera, Edge, and Brave. Unfortunately, it does not support the pop up screen you mentioned. That said, we appreciate the feature request! Iāve passed this suggestion along to our engineers to consider as we continue to upgrade the app and merged this into our Mac app thread so other Gems can also vote on it. Stay tuned!
What I do is just block the browsers they donāt support, and that works for me. However, the fact that I can just close the app anytime from the toolbar defeats the purpose for me.
Iāve really enjoyed using Opal on iOS and was excited when the Mac app launched. However, Iāve been pretty disappointed with its quality due to numerous bugs and missing features. Unfortunately, this has left me with a negative impression of Opal as a whole. While I understand that the Mac app may still be considered a āBetaā product, Opal heavily promotes it both on their website and within the iOS app.
The main reason most people use Opal is for āDeep Focusā blocks, yet the Mac app still allows users to force quit the application or terminate it via Activity Monitor. Are there any plans to address this? The app has been out for a while, and this issue persists, making me wonder if itās simply not possible to enforce true focus blocks on macOS or if this isnāt a priority for the team.
Without this feature, the app is essentially ineffective for many users. This concern has been raised multiple times by various users on the forum, yet it continues to be ignored. If a fix isnāt possible or isnāt planned, I believe the team should be transparent about it.
Happy to help and sorry for the frustration! Iām afraid our Mac app is not yet as robust as the phone version of our app, but our engineers are working on improving it. Stay tuned!
In the Arc Browser, the block is ignored when you open a blocked website in a Little Arc window or click a link in a Peek window (using Shift + Click).
Happy to help. Currently, our Mac app supports Chrome, Safari, Arc, Opera, Edge, and Brave. Unfortunately, it does not support the Little Arc window that you mentioned. That said, we appreciate the feature request! Hi, thanks for introducing the Opal app for MacBook.
So my question is about MacBook Opal appā¦
Is it possible for Opal to allow any website to be added to āblocked listā. Because, at the moment, I can only block certain websites that are in your database.
Or if thatās not possible, could I make suggestion, or could I make request somewhere about websites that I want to be added.
