Allow for Longer & Customisable Breaks

I tried looking in the forum to see if someone requested this so sorry if this is a duplicate request. I’d love to see the Opal app provide more flexibility in editing break times, allowing users to extend breaks beyond 15 minutes to options like 30 or 45 minutes. A 30-minute break, in particular, makes sense as it aligns with standard meal or rest break durations during the day. This would accommodate users who want a longer, intentional break to use their phone during lunch or downtime. Having the ability to customize break times to better suit individual schedules would enhance the app’s usability and make it even more effective in supporting productivity and balance.

Hey @Max_Powell,

Thanks for your request! I’ve passed this suggestion along to our engineers to consider as we continue to upgrade the app; I’ve also renamed this thread so other Gems can find it easily and vote on it. Stay tuned!

All the best,
Team Opal

I’m liking using Opal for longer increments because it makes my YouTube use more accountable. I don’t want to end blocking for the rest of the day. I’ve already done that a few times and it’s too easy to go on YouTube to watch one thing and come out the other end 3 hours later having watched a bunch more.

I want to be able to have a “break” to watch a whole video. But I guess at that point it’s not exactly a break. And these videos are useful for work.

Ideally, I think I’d want to not so much have daily limits, but to have everything mostly blocked by default. And when I open certain apps, I want to be able to set a time for how long I expect to use that app before using it.

I like the reminder warnings, but I think I could use one extra warning, or more, especially for longer time increments. For example, I’d want to know when I’m half way through my limit.

I easily get sucked in and lose track of time, and these features would help me with that.

Hey @cowvr,

Thanks for the feature request! Currently, we’re not able to interact with your apps and/or websites in this nuanced a way to instigate a break that’s the length of a video, sorry about that! That said, I’ve passed this suggestion along to our engineers to consider as we continue to upgrade the app. I’ve also merged it into existing thread on customising break options. Stay tuned!

All the best,
Team Opal
