Hey! I really love the app, it’s been a game changer for me on the phone, so I’m forever grateful for it.
I recently got a Mac and was stoked to see that you also have a laptop version, but I do have one suggestion:
Having an option to hide the Opal icon from the Menu Bar, because otherwise it is super easy to cheat. Right now I can just tap the icon and click on “End Schedule” and it’ll end my session, at will.
My workaround has been to install “Ice” (menu bar management app) and put Opal in the “Always Hidden” category — it works fine, but it’d be nice to have it as a native option in the app.
Cheers! Keep up the good work.
Hey there @vitorangonese,
Happy to help! We actually already now have this feature. To obtain it, please take the following troubleshooting steps:
- Open the Mac app
- Click on the arrow icon in the top right corner
- Click on the username icon in the bottom left corner
- Click on “Sign out”
- Click on the Opal name in the top left menu bar
- Select “Check for updates” and update to the newest version
- Log in again
Once you’ve updated the Mac app and logged in, just navigate to the Settings tab and toggle off “Show Opal in Dock”. That should do the trick!
All the best,
Team Opal

Hey @Sarah_K, thanks for your reply!
I actually did that, but it only hid the icon from the dock, as the name suggests hahah
The Menu Bar icon kept showing up, maybe I did something wrong?
Cheers!

Hey @vitorangonese,
Sorry for the confusion there, I misunderstood! You are correct. The “Show Opal in Dock” option in the Mac App Settings hides the Mac App from the dock, not the menu bar. That said, in terms of Menu Bar options, we do have a “Compact Menu Icon” toggle to show the compact version (i.e. not show the Block Status in the menu bar). There is currently no option to hide the menu bar icon entirely; however, I’ve passed this suggestion along to our engineers to consider as we continue to upgrade the app. Stay tuned!
All the best,
Team Opal
