Add a deterrent function to prevent you from opening up social media all the time. The “one sec” app on the App Store does great with this. I use the one with the little circle that you put your finger on and follow around the screen before you’re allowed to open the app. It’s done with integrating shortcuts, I think it would be a great addition to Opal so I don’t have to use both apps.
I’ve found two more screen time apps that introduce deterrent features as well as one sec. The apps clearspace, and Lemio both introduce deterrent functions to prevent you from immediately jumping into using the app.
Lemio is similar to one sec in that it uses shortcuts to redirect you to the deterrent feature of their app automatically. Clearspace on the other hand is a full suite screen time app similar to Opal; however, they introduce a notification to the screen time page asking if you’d like to use the app and breathe as the deterrent feature. It feels very well integrated into the process and a lot less clunky than the shortcut solutions which don’t work 100% of the time.
Since many competitors to Opal are introducing deterrent features to their apps, I would love to see Opal add the feature as well to prevent you from immediately starting doom scrolling.
