I think there is a design inconsistency in how Focus Mode works on desktop compared to mobile.
Expected behavior
When Focus Mode is set to the most restrictive option, the user should not be able to log out while a Focus session is active. The only way to bypass the restriction should be the weekly Emergency Pass.
This is how the mobile app behaves. While Focus Mode is on, logging out is not allowed.
Actual behavior on desktop (Mac)
On Mac desktop, even with Focus Mode in the most restrictive setting, I am still able to log out from the account menu while a Focus session is active. When I log back in, Focus Mode resumes and works correctly.
Why this matters
Allowing logout during an active Focus session creates an unnecessary escape hatch in the strictest mode. Even if Focus resumes after login, the intent of the setting is to remove all frictionless exits during the session.
Suggestion
For consistency and integrity of the most restrictive mode, desktop should:
- Disable the logout option while Focus Mode is active, or
- Prompt the user that logging out is not allowed until the Focus session ends or an Emergency Pass is used
