To update you can either check for updates in-app or download directly from Opal for Mac
I just wanted to take a moment to say how much I appreciate your app—it has been a game-changer in helping me manage my screen time on my iPhone and iPad, especially since there’s no way to bypass it.
However, I’ve noticed that on Mac, I’m still able to find ways around the blocker. I’ve already disabled Activity Monitor to prevent myself from closing Opal, but I discovered that using Command + Shift + Q allows me to bypass it entirely. Unfortunately, this often leads me down a YouTube or Reddit rabbit hole.
I’d be incredibly grateful if you could address this issue in a future update. Keep up the great work, and thanks again for building such a helpful tool!
I’ve really enjoyed using Opal on iOS and was excited when the Mac app launched. However, I’ve been pretty disappointed with its quality due to numerous bugs and missing features. Unfortunately, this has left me with a negative impression of Opal as a whole. While I understand that the Mac app may still be considered a “Beta” product, Opal heavily promotes it both on their website and within the iOS app.
The main reason most people use Opal is for “Deep Focus” blocks, yet the Mac app still allows users to force quit the application or terminate it via Activity Monitor. Are there any plans to address this? The app has been out for a while, and this issue persists, making me wonder if it’s simply not possible to enforce true focus blocks on macOS or if this isn’t a priority for the team.
Without this feature, the app is essentially ineffective for many users. This concern has been raised multiple times by various users on the forum, yet it continues to be ignored. If a fix isn’t possible or isn’t planned, I believe the team should be transparent about it.
