Opal Apple Watch ‘complications’

I would love if Opal had the ability to have Apple Watch complications (the shortcuts to apps on watch faces).

One for the big section that shows time remaining in a focus would be perfect, but even just the little icon one would be great! It’s annoying always having to go into the full app list to pull up Opal.

@kenneth (and team) — I’d like to request Apple Watch complication support that lets users start an Opal Focus Timer directly from a Modular / Modular Ultra watch face, without opening the iPhone app.

User Story

As a user who studies in cafés and wants to keep my phone out of sight,
I want an Opal complication on my Apple Watch Modular watch face that starts a Focus session with one tap,
so that I can begin a timed reading/study session without touching my phone and without triggering distractions.

Context / Problem

When I’m in a café and ready to read or study, opening my iPhone or Mac often leads to distraction:
• On iPhone, I might see notifications or other apps and get pulled into unrelated tasks.
• On Mac, other windows, tabs, or tools can easily steal attention.

By contrast, the Apple Watch is a low-distraction device. If I can start a Focus session from the watch face with a single tap, I can:
• keep the phone out of view,
• set a clear time boundary (e.g., 25 minutes),
• and enter deep focus immediately.

This “one-tap from the watch face” flow would significantly reduce the chance of attention being hijacked and would make Opal’s value proposition even stronger.

Proposed Behavior (Requirements)

Complication type: Modular / Modular Ultra compatible (and ideally other common watch faces too)

Primary action:
• Tap complication → Start Focus Timer immediately.

Session options (choose one approach):
1. Single default duration (e.g., “Start Focus Now” using last-used or user-configurable default), or
2. Two quick actions (e.g., 25m and 60m), or
3. Tap → open a lightweight watch screen to select duration, then start.

State display (optional, but very helpful):
• When session is running, the complication shows remaining time / status.
• Tap while running → open session controls (pause/stop).

Why This Matters
• Enables starting focus without exposing myself to iPhone/Mac distractions.
• Perfect fit for real-world “intentional focus” moments (café study, commute, quick reading blocks).
• Strengthens Opal’s positioning as a frictionless, cross-device focus tool.

Note / Appreciation

Even though the macOS Screen Time API can be inconsistent and cross-device behavior may have some instability on desktop, I still rely on Opal daily and genuinely appreciate the experience you’re building. Thank you for your work — this watch face complication would be a meaningful upgrade for users who want maximum focus with minimal friction.
