Please add overlapping sessions! So many users have requested it, app limits are not solving the problem. I want to be able to whitelist apps only during certain times (IE use email only during work hours) and allow deeper focus sessions on top of that. Itās been years since this was first proposed, please give us the feature!
Hi my suggestion for the future would be a button that time overlapping blocks are working (at least I donāt find a way to to it). When overlapping is happening one of the blocks is snoozed.
This should be able to set by the user. Just in my opinion. When I have a normal block in the morning but want that the harder block is going on until the evening.
I typically block social media 24 hours at a time
But then when I go to the gym I also want to block work apps
Currently there is no way to do this
It would be great to be able to, for example, block social media for 24 hours and then while that is going block work apps for 2 hours while at the gym
Hey @Peds,
Thanks for the suggestion! To clarify, you can now run overlapping Sessions if you run both a Session and an app limit and/or app lock at the same time:

Opal FAQ | How to use App Limit
That said, weād like to be able to run overlapping Sessions in the future, so Iāve also escalated this feature request to our engineers to consider for our roadmap. Stay tuned!
I hope that helps,
Team Opal
Any updates on this? Itās fast becoming a deal breaker for me to get value out of Opal.
This blew my mind that this wasnāt a thing coming to Opal. ScreenZen has this (what I was moving away from)
I canāt believe this isnāt being added and I stupidly bought the pro membership without realising this wasnāt a standard feature!
Can Opal actually communicate a timeline of when theyāre doing it? As above said, this is a deal breaker for me.
I commented before but this really needs to be a thing Iām probably going to cancel my membership if it isnāt added soon bc competitors have it and limits arent the same use case.
Itās been over two years what other things are more important? Small bug fixes? This is easily the most important user facing feature to implement, hopefully you guys can re evaluate and at least plan it on the road map
I need to be able to have my morning magic session enabled while also having my evening session set!!
Essentially what I need to accomplish is multiple sessions enabled at once ā because they are blocking different apps at different timesā¦ please make this possible!
More specifically my use case:
- Block tinder and hinge from 9PM to 4PM next day.
- Block all entertainment apps from 9PM to lunchtime next day.
Same here. I consider this table stakes for an expensive and configurable ScreenTime app. Please stop recommending using App Locks and App Limits. iOS can also do App Limits without having to pay for Opal. Plus, those donāt have the option of specifying time ranges, which makes them much leas useful.
My use case is that I want to set some apps to Deep Focus during a specific period, while setting other Apps in the Timeout method during the same time. Itās baffling that this is not possible?! Why not block YouTube and limit Safari at the same time?
Hi Sarah. What Iād love Opal to do is have App Limits embedded in Work Sessions. I want the flexibility to use then block an app without having to set constantly changing time limits if I only wanted the block to end coinciding with the end of the work session. There is unnecessary legwork configuring time limits to end in tandem with sessions. Please address this issue, App Limits will be almost meaningless for long periods, with the need of cancellations for the end of work days. I shall seriously reconsider my use of the app based on availability or lack of such a solution. Thank you kindly for your patience with us.
my thing is that I put a session for the entire day with a couple apps that I donāt want to touch for the day, but I also want to put blocks of like 3 hours to work, and these 3 hours blocks with a couple more apps on top of the first ones i mentioned earlier. But I cannot do it with the function āblock nowā because I am already in a deep focus sessions for the entire day, I know im repeating but i only want social media when I am done with everything, so I block it all for the day. Then when I work I personally have some other distractions that I want to block now for my work period of 2-3 hours. Because yea I wanna watch one piece when I am eating my lunch after my work session but its distracting when I work. So being able to do so would be very helpful to my situation.
What you guys think about that
Hey @Julien,
Iām afraid weāre unable to do this, as itās not currently possible to run two Sessions simultaneously. That said, Iāve passed this suggestion along to our engineers to consider as we continue to upgrade the app and merged your request into the existing thread on the subject. Stay tuned!
All the best,
Team Opal
Hi, I would have loved to be able to configure different difficulty levels for different apps/websites within a session. For example, during a work session I could set Netflix to DeepFocus but messenger is only set at time out. This way I could start up apps that I occationally need, but in generall should avoid.
I think this would also solve some of the requests earlier in this thread, instead of running multiple sessions.
Also, family subscriptions would be a great option.
And I just want to say thanks for making this app. Much needed!
