Selective grayscale - revisited

Two others have posted about grayscale color filtering to enable on selected apps either during sessions or not. I think this idea deserves to be revisited because people don’t realize how powerful this is.

For example, I started using Opal and using grayscale has been a phenomenal addition to reducing screen time. There’s been countless studies on how color is used to grab attention, how it affects our psyche, and how it glues us to our phones. There’s also countless people talking about how losing color on the screen helps them quit. Marketing directors and UX designers would agree on this.

Yes, there are shortcuts with your volume button you can do. I have mine set to click three times to alternate between grayscale and not. But as many of us know as we signed up for Opal, we needed something to hold us accountable, and it gets harder to turn the grayscale off when the colors are designed to keep you hooked

It doesn’t seem like a huge ask to the programmers for Opal to access Accessibility > Color Filters and enable grayscale on certain apps when requested, during sessions or otherwise. I miss taking color pictures with my phone, but love not being as addicted to social media and consumerism because of the lack of colors.

Hope this is taken into consideration by the developers. Thank you all for this app in any case!

Agree. Would be very useful. You can greyscale apps on an iPhone - huge barrier but a pain when phone not blocked!
