First of all, I appreciate the work you’re doing with Opalâ - it’s an incredible tool for improving focus and productivity.
I’d like to suggest a small but important update: allow users to disable the default blocking message (“This app is blocked by Opal”) and fully customize what appears when opening a blocked app.
Why is this important?
More Flexibility: Currently, the default blocking message is always enabled, and users must see it even if they prefer only one of the curated blocking screens (e.g., Pop Culture, Haiku of Focus, or Luminaries).
True Customization: Users should be able to use only the blocking screens they choose
without being forced to keep the default message enabled.
Better User Experience: If someone wants just “Pop Culture” or a combination of “Haiku of Focus” and “Luminaries” they should have the freedom to configure it exactly as they want.
Suggested Update
Make the default blocking message optional instead of mandatory.
Allow users to select and use only the blocking screens they want, without any extra messages.
This small change would significantly improve user experience and customization.
Would love to hear what the team and other users think about this!
Happy to help and sorry for the trouble. The screen you’re seeing above is not related to the default Opal screen mentioned at the top of this thread. However, we appreciate you flagging this issue, and have escalated it to our engineers based on multiple reports. Unfortunately, some Gems are seeing Apple’s native block screens instead of Opal’s block screens. This is related to changes made on Apple’s side, so it’s taking our engineers longer to fix. That said, they are now on the case, and we’ll let you know when a fix has been implemented.
thanks for your response, sarah! I thought that might be the case because my opal screen looks exactly like what was described at the beginning of the post. I’ll send a screenshot.
Thanks for the clarification! I may have misunderstood your issue. Are you attempting to turn off the default blocking screens so you can toggle on the others exclusively? If so, please let me know!
We’ve got an update for you! If you update to the newest version of the app, you can toggle on and off every block screen category, including the default:
