Hi all,
I’m new to this forum and happy to be here. Opal has been hugely helpful to me.
Upon a quick scan, I’ve found my request is similar to the popular “Set an intention” request: Set a goal/intentions/note to Take a Break or before opening a distracting App
I believe this feature should be added but applied more broadly.
Like a lot of users of Opal, I’m an artist. I need to prioritize creative work like my art and writing over consuming. A tough hurdle at times.
In that moment of reaching for the apps, I’m usually coming from a place of mental exhaustion and low willpower, so it’s hard to set a creative intention in that moment, even a trivial or playful one (which we know can be the most powerful).
What if in the moment that I’m navigating to take a break and mindlessly consume - I am required to do the opposite?
If I was prompted with a textbox that requires me to write anything, even something as trivial as a meme or a sensation I’m feeling in that moment - creating sneaks up on me much like my urge to open Instagram. It removes that extra step of opening a writing app and switching into the “creator” mode. It becomes automatic. “Fine, I’ll write a sentence so I can get into Reddit.”
I’d love the option to toggle a required textbox like this to pop up before every break.
Best case, I might get distracted by my own independent thought and forgo the break.
Worst case, I create footprints of output in a sea of input.
